  • Food, Wine, Truth

The Pasquale brand is a striking black star representing irrepressible change and progress. Within its design are universal elements, linking us all to nature and truth. Fundamental to Pasquale are authenticity, love, and a gratitude to nature for all that she gives us. This is why you can ultimately trust that behind the black star awaits a genuine, respectful and truthful expression of nature.

For more than a century, mankind has been in the relentless pursuit of cheaper and more abundant food. The result has been the industrialisation of our food supply. We have become disconnected and distanced from what we eat and drink. We have lost part of our soul. But, In vino veritas. In wine there is truth. Really? That isn’t always the case. How can you be assured that the wine you buy is true to its label? You must rely on the honesty of everyone in the supply chain — from the vine to the table

    Reconnecting You to the Soil

The link between you, me, our food & wine and its origin transcends barcodes, tags, stickers and unverified marketing claims. The real link lies within the wine. The certainty is in the science. And, it is inseparable. The soils and other natural properties of the Waitaki and Hakataramea Valleys are fundamental to the character of our wines and what make them so special. You can believe in our wines because Oritain, an internationally recognised science provider has fingerprinted each one.

  • Antonio Pasquale
    Philosopher

    antonio-pasquale.png

I’ve grown up in a family of merchants, involved in the wine world for generations.

Thinking to be very different from my family, I did my best to spend as long as possible reading philosophy at the University of Padua. I had a great time studying the Gestalt Theory with Professor Marco Sambin, and since then I’ve been always looking at the facts and the figures of my experience in a way that has nothing to do with structuralism -  instead, I see observation and organisation of space and ideas as a representation of the holistic quality of the brain.

Anyhow, with all the good intentions, I did not particularly well, and after discussing my thesis at the University of Urbino, I found myself with a modest offer as a researcher in Story and Criticism of Cinema, because of my studies on Ozu, a Japanese director. I found the offer more than I deserved but not enough to make a living.

All this is to tell you that, regardless of my ideas, I have found myself in New Zealand with a satisfying career in the farming industry and as a wine producer. Starting a new region of wine production in my new country is a particular privilege.

I would like to find a way to build with you, the reader, a new way to connect, where the quality and purity of our wines are vehicles to a shared idea - a way of thinking and living a common vision.

Thus we say our wines are for thinking, not just drinking.

    Creator

Ecke Bonk, world renowned German typographer, symbolist and artist, has been working with Pasquale Viticultura for many years.

He has developed the five pointed black star as a symbol to represent our brand and product. The star references complex mathematical equations as well as concepts found in history and philosophy.

As our brand symbol it recognises these ideas and relates them to the making of wine - the philosophy and science that is integral to this process.
